From Lower Granite Dam upstream to Hell's Canyon the Snake offers a variety of fishing that is unequaled anywhere in the region:
The smallmouth bass fishing in this section is nothing less than spectacular; the spring months (April, May and early June) are the best time to go after the trophy sized fish in the 5 to 7 lb. plus range. Whether you prefer spin fishing, casting or fly fishing you will be thrilled with this fantastic fishery!
This area is also a good choice for catch and release sturgeon fishing. With many large, deep holes that offer prime habitat for these prehistoric monsters (often reaching lengths in excess of 10 ft.), the Snake River from Lewiston & Clarkston to Cache Creek in Hell's Canyon is the place to land the fish of a lifetime.
Snake River Steelhead! Although not as large in size as their Clearwater cousins, Snake River steelhead make it up in numbers. During the peak period from mid October through November it's not unusual to boat over 20 fish per day. Hot fishing, great scenery and a limit of steelhead fresh from the Pacific - What could be better?
The wild life and geological formations are as impressive as the river itself. It is not uncommon to see eagles, river otters, deer and big horn sheep along the river corridor.
Petroglyphs left by the ancient people of the area are added attractions to the river traveler. Between these things and the rugged beauty of the river canyon the Snake River has something for everyone. Whether you want a river tour through Hells Canyon or to fish for white sturgeon, the true giants of the water, this river can provide an experience of a life time.

Snake River - Hells Canyon Fishing - Steelhead, Sturgeon, Bass
From the Snake River's confluence with the Columbia River upstream to Hell's Canyon this unique river offers a year round fishing opportunity for several species of freshwater fish including White Sturgeon, Smallmouth Bass, Catfish and Steelhead. With the first warming trend in the spring and a hint of color in the river the catfish, sturgeon and bass start taking advantage of the tremendous food source offered only by the spring run off.
The first three impoundments on the lower Snake provide the angler an excellent opportunity to harvest a White Sturgeon as well as some great fishing for Channel and Blue Catfish. If you want to relax, enjoy some unique scenery and take home some of the best fillets around-this area is tough to beat.
