Spring 2010....We are expecting a large run of spring Chinook soon.
After the past number of years disappointments I am reserving my glee until we actually see some real numbers crossing the dams. I suspect as with all low water years these silver bullets will be late and that appears to be the case at this time. Fish and Game Departments in the 3 states that will see the bounty are still saying "they are coming" which I certainly hope is fact.
Time will tell and hopefully the anglers will see some spring fun.
Soap Box - Statement concerning 2010 fishing seasons
Salmon fishing in the Clearwater or in Snake River
is apt to bring on the same problem I discussed in the opinion on Steelhead and problems with legal behavior seen in 2009.
Real sportsmen do not participate in this kind of behavior...
Next month editorial is on what it would take to really clean up Idaho's problem with illegal outfitting.
STURGEON care - reminders for all!
Spring will be coming in a few months and it will be sport fishing Sturgeon that the inland Snake River anglers will be thinking about. I continue to see photos and videos of trophy sized sturgeon that have basically been removed from the waters support. These fish are drug up out of the water until their mouths, gills and most of their bodies are exposed. Pictures are taken, videos running and people patting themselves on their backs and the fish lay there unable to oxygenate themselves.
Listen up people, these fish are not to be removed from the water for photo shoots and your photos and videos are quite frankly disgusting to anyone who loves and admires these fish....You are putting sturgeon in extreme danger by your behavior and in many cases leaving yourself open to being fined as this is not legal.
Note: Idaho has passed new legislation regarding utilizing a non licensed individual for a guided trip on Idaho waters. There is much stronger fines for the guide and the the anglers using an unlicensed guide will also be subject to fines. It is the buyers responsibility to utilize only Idaho licensed guides.
